Payment, Insurance & Sliding Scale

We’re an out-of-network practice. Most clients use their out-of-network benefits, and our billing partner, Thrizer, files the claims for you. Sliding-scale fees are available. Not sure what you’d pay? Ask on your free consult.

What out-of-network means

We aren’t on your insurance company’s list of in-network providers. You pay for each session, and if your plan has out-of-network benefits, your insurance pays you back for part of the cost, sometimes all of it.

Why we're out of network

It’s the norm for private practice in New York. Your insurer doesn’t decide how long you stay in therapy, you share only what your care requires, and we can match you with the right therapist, not just whoever your plan lists.

SLIDING SCALE

If cost is what’s standing between you and therapy, tell us on your consult. We’ll set a fee that fits your budget.

If you have out-of-network benefits, we review the fee once your reimbursements start coming in, so your out-of-pocket cost stays where we agreed.

Scholarships

Our nonprofit, the NYC Counseling Foundation, offers scholarships for individual and group therapy.

No insurance?

The sliding scale still applies. You pay privately at a fee we set together.

Using your out-of-network benefits

Thrizer handles the insurance side, so you don’t have to file claims yourself.

1

Thrizer checks your benefits

Before you start, so you know what to expect.

2

Thrizer files the claim

After each session, automatically.

3

Your insurance pays you back

Once your deductible is met, you may only pay your co-insurance.

Clients use out-of-network benefits from most major commercial plans. Coverage depends on your plan, so Thrizer checks it before your first session.

Check Your Insurance Benefits

No out-of-network benefits? There may be another way

Some plans will cover an out-of-network therapist at in-network prices if someone asks the right way. Adi Atlas of True Parity Patient Advocacy makes that request for you. If your insurance says yes, you’d pay about what you’d pay an in-network therapist, usually for a full year.

Who it's for

How it works

1

Book a free consult with us

Meet your therapist first.

2

Have a free 30-minute call with Adi

To see if your plan is a good fit.

3

Adi handles the request with your insurer

Your therapist may write a short letter to support it.

4

If it's approved, you see us at in-network prices

If it isn't, you don't pay Adi anything.

Adi charges a one-time fee, and only if your insurance approves. True Parity is a separate company, and we don’t get anything for referring you.
