Valerie Herman
MSW-I
You don’t have to have everything figured out to start therapy. Sometimes having someone in your corner to talk things through, understand yourself better, and find your way forward can make all the difference.
I work with adolescents, young adults, and adults as they navigate different stages of life, relationships, personal growth, and change. Whether you’re figuring out who you are, adjusting to a new chapter, working through a relationship, or looking for support through a difficult time, therapy can offer a space to slow down and work through what’s going on.
I help clients work through anxiety, relationship challenges, communication and boundaries, self-esteem, and the stress that can come with major life changes. We can also work on managing difficult emotions, building healthier coping skills, and understanding patterns that may be getting in the way. My goal is to help you better understand yourself and feel more confident in the choices you’re making.
My approach is collaborative and draws from ACT, DBT, CBT, and trauma-informed therapy. Sessions are conversational and give you space to talk openly, understand what’s going on, and work together on what would be most helpful. I’ll meet you where you are and we’ll focus on what feels most relevant to you.
Approach & Values
Valerie takes a structured, collaborative approach to therapy focused on helping clients understand what is driving their thoughts, emotions, and behavior, and how to respond more effectively.
With younger clients, she uses play to support emotional expression and regulation. With adolescents and adults, she focuses on identifying patterns, building coping skills, and helping clients make clearer, more intentional habits and decisions.
Valerie is attentive to pacing and alignment in the work. She prioritizes understanding a client’s experience in their own words, and avoids pushing interventions that don’t feel relevant or useful. Her approach emphasizes consistency and follow-through so that insights translate into meaningful, sustained change.
