Prestasia Cohen

MFT-I

A native New Yorker, Prestasia comes from a big, close, hard working family with Southern roots. While earning a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science and later a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy she has also worked full-time in healthcare. After several years as a Patient Access Specialist at the Hospital for Special Surgery, Prestasia quickly worked her way up to managing multiple health care start-ups.

Prestasia has volunteered for several years in afterschool programs, supporting children navigating academic and social challenges, and in hospice care, supporting the dying and their families through end-of-life. Her passion for decreasing the pain and increasing the growth for people facing life’s more ordinary and extraordinary challenges is a driving force in her personal and professional lives.

Prestasia loves to read, travel, volunteer, explore new cuisines and cultures, and immerse herself in art and music.

Approach & Values

Prestasia draws from various modalities, including Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), the Gottman Method, and Imago Therapy in customizing her approach to each unique person’s path. Through exploring emotions, confronting obstacles, she embarks on a journey with her clients towards healing and self-discovery.

Mindfulness, journaling, and developing a support system, are a few of many tools Prestasia may encourage on the journey towards building more harmonious and meaningful lives.
