Lisa Arroyo

MHC-I

Born and bred in Brooklyn, Lisa has forged a non-traditional path in becoming a psychotherapist. In her early twenties, Lisa paused her educational aspirations to juggle multiple jobs as a single mother. Lisa remarried, had and homeschooled two more children, navigated major health challenges, and worked in various capacities including as an emergency vet tech dealing with life-and-death moments.

Two decades later, Lisa resumed her lifelong desire of becoming a psychotherapist, earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mental health counseling (Summa cum Laude). Her experiences give Lisa deep insight into family dynamics, relationships, and the complexities of balancing life’s many demands.

Lisa is an artist, musician, and traveler who gets that sometimes healing means finding creative ways to express what you can’t quite put into words. Her grit and determination in creating change in her own life informs Lisa’s inspired, intrepid, and, when appropriate, unconventional therapeutic approaches.

Therapeutic Approach

Lisa’s own real-world experience informs her clinical work, providing insight into resilience, adaptability, and how people navigate complex challenges. She focuses on family, marriage, and sex therapy, bringing all those messy, real-life experiences into her work.

In session, there is no shame in Lisa’s game. She engages in difficult conversations, particularly about sex, in a curious and non-judgmental way. Lisa has particular interest in working with clients to explore their changing roles and identities through life’s relationships and transitions.
